Question one:
1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
We adopted many aspect of real media ranging from music videos to advertisements. Our video consists of shot angles, themes and techniques from different real media products, that we adapted to suit our music video, however some features are very similar and almost inter textual.
We have used a similar image to this one from Pink's video to 'Raise your glass' that represents WW1 pro women propaganda, we have used this to show a strong power characteristic in women in today's society. We discovered Pink's video after we had already used this image in our video and therefore we were able to further developour initial idea by using a poster in the background to reinforce the image that we were trying to create. Pink's image and message she portrays to the audience is similar to that of our character Bailey, which is the empowerment of women.
We decided to develop our idea's by juxtapose the image's we have created in our video by creating a contrasting message in our video. We used camera angle's to represent objectifying women, we used a tilt shot from her legs to her face. We developed this idea after watching the video to 'Frim Fram Sauce' by The Nat King Cole Trio. This is to mock men objectifying women where as in the 'Frim Fram Sauce' video there the tilt shot has no relevance to the song other than just having the image of a woman's body in it.
We used a humorous element through out our video by developing ideas we have seen in videos such as 'We 'no speak Americano'. we have used an idea from the this music video to create the ending of our music video we decided to end it with the female protagonist chasing the male with a shoe. We edited in an old movie style effect (spehia with vertical scratches and dots). The 'We 'no speak Americano' music video also shows the conventional chasing of another character portrayed in old comedies. We thought this was effective in our video.
However we have also challenged the conventions of a pop music video by our video being simple in comparison to most music video's which are bright, colourful and extravagant in their locations, props and use of costume and make up, we used realistic locations, props and costumes to relate more with our target audience. We also challenged by not including a dance routine where as most music video's have backing dancers and full routines.

Question three:
3) What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
On Thursday 7Th April, we hosted a film showing evening. This showing displayed all of our productions across AS and A2. I enjoyed seeing the year 12's productions and giving them audience feedback as I felt that they're films were some of the best as they were an assortment of all different genres not just horror/thriller. we tried to get as much audience feedback as possible by giving the audience response sheets to fill out, and set up response booths so after the showcase was over they could give us some verbal feedback that we could film on our flip cameras it was good to receive some feedback from other students and teachers.
I found this a great opportunity to show off our productions what we had been working on for the past year Here is what we found from our audience feedback:
-'video fits well with the genre'
-'costume was appropriate for the genre and the forwarding and rewinding effect looked really good'
- 'different camera angles and good song choice'
" Fits with music genre - Excellent"
"Loved all the different shots"
"Video went well with the song choice"
"Favourite part, the ending scene"
"Good effects and camera angles"
"Great lighting"
"Good use of different camera angles"
"Good locations, which matched song choice"
"White background was very effective"
"Fast pace shots worked well"
"Good use of rewinding effect"
"Good lip syncing"
"Fun video, matches song"
"Fantastic costumes, and locations"
"Great range of shots"
"very funny/cute"
"Excellent split screens"
"Funny/well edited"
"Creative use of props/costumes'
Use of props connect with the lyrics"
"Fantastic camera angles"
Great variety, fits with genre"
"Quirky and enjoyable because of the location changes"
"Upbeat got me grooving in my seat"
"Creative and effective ending"

From looking at all the feedback that we have gained. We have learnt that, our audience really liked our use of props and costumes, because they related to our song and our pop genre. By also gaining audience feedback during the production of our music video, allowed us to be able to change things to improve the final version of our music video, which meant that in the end our product was more of what our target audience wanted. We learnt that our audience wanted fast pace editing and short quick shots, so the video was eye catching and for us to include locations that they could relate to, so our music video should be realistic. In the feedback we gained after our music video had been shown at the showcase evening in school, we learnt that our audience found our video really fun and quirky , which is the image we wanted to create for our artist in our music video.

Magazine advertisment:
This is my magazine Advert, i tried to make it as similar as my digi pack as possible as i wanted to keep a consistent fell trough all the productions, ii started by using the same picture i used for my digi pack as i think it shows the representation we wanted to portray in our artists character, i think she looks really quirky and girlie, i edited the top shes wearing in the picture to a pink colour as this then fits with the colour scheme. I also kept the same font size and composition of the artist name as this then is easily recognised to the audience as it becomes something like a logo. I kept the Font size the same as i liked the large size as i think it is eye catching and stands out.

Album Advertisements:
These are advertisements of Lily Allen's albums... I really like how the first one doesn't have a picture of Lily this shows her to be so famous her audience doesn't have to see her to know who she is! i like the bold pattern and colours show Lily's quirky and loud personality, i would like to create a similar effect in my advertisement, and the second one is much more simple and shows Lily to be more professional and sophisticated, the black and white colour scheme works well and the dates and information is very clear to see. It shows her album which is coming out and the release date. The first one is much more harder to read, perhaps that one is a concert advertisement or a festival as it is much more quirky. Perhaps the styles are just very different because of the type of magazine they were in maybe they were targeted at different audience.

Lily Allen Advertisments:
Here are some covers of Lily Allen i have found, i like the way Lily Allen portrays herself in different ways depending on the target audience, each of these magazine covers is aimed at a different group of people, and Lily Allen is shown very differently in each. On the 'Billboard' magazine Lily is shown to "speak out about paparazzi" this is showing Lily as a famous celebrity always being followed by the 'paps' on the cover Lily looks to be shown as someone the audience can relate to, perhaps showing Lily just wants to be normal.
In 'Q' Magazine Lily is portrayed as a "Sexy Beast" showing her with "Wild" animals and a bare back, this is showing her in a seductive way, perhaps the target audience for this magazine is men?
Then 'Sunday' this shows Lily to be very fashionable, in a purple dress with a large gold bangle, maybe the target audience for this magazine is teenage girls, portraying Lily as someone to follow in the fashion world.
Finally 'Spin' magazine, this quirky picture of Lily shows her unique style and out going personality, "Confessions of a reformed party girl" showing Lily as a party animal, again teenage girls can relate? to Lily's bold personality shown through the loud and bright colours age is wearing and big hairstyle.

Research into magazine advert:
I have started to look into popular female artists who like Lily Allen are in the pop genre, i have found a few of Rhianna, these are some of the front covers of magazines she has done...
Rhianna has been on the cover of many magazines, i have found, 'Vibe' and 'Billboard'
Although these covers mainly advertise the artist rather than an album they have brought out, artists tend to advertise themselves to be in the public eye when they are bringing out a product this encourages the public to buy their newest product.
Rhianna portrays herself in a good way so the public See's her in a positive light and is therefore more likely to buy her products.

Other inspiration:
While Oyinda and i were editing we was trying to find ways to enhance the strong beat of the song through our music video, We took element from this video such as the jumpy and quick repetition of small movements and we decided to recreate these in our video. We used this techinique in the beggining of our video with the footsteps and also to fix an error we had made in filming. We did a point of view shot when the male blows glitter to the camera and the reaction shot of the girl receiving the glitter in her face, however the angle in which she recieved the glitter was different to the angle in which the male blew it. so we had to make a few adjustments using the technique. This technique came in handy and looked better than our intial edit.
Here is a screen shot of the part of our music video where we used the same editing technique as rhianna's video:

Conventions of a magazine advert:
I have been researching into a typical magazine advert and i have found that certain aspects are commonly used these are known as conventions, the conventions that you would see on a magazine advert are for an album would be the following:
Ratings / opinions / reviews
The band name
Tour date details
Album artwork
Website details
I-tunes/ play.com etc Adverts
Singles (taken from)
Album Name
Record Label
Nominations and awards
I will try and use as many of these conventions in my magazine advert to make it look as professional and real as i can.

Making my Digipak:
I made my Digi pack on Photoshop, i used two print screens from our music video and edited them, and i also used a photo of Oyinda which i also edited.
Here are the original pictures:
I edited this screen shot of Oyinda from our music video to be the back of my digi pack were the album track list will be, i changed the colour to black and white to show a professional look, and i cropped the background of the picture out i wanted to show our artist in a quirky way, so i changed the contrast to add a bold look, this also shows are artists personality as we wanted her to be quirky and bold. i then added the track list in a pink font and handwriting style as this shows her girly side and then i made the list tilt to also add a quirky look. I then added a bar code some music logo's and a website to make it look professional.
I used this picture of Oyinda as the front cover of my digipack, i like the way her tongue is out as it shows the cheeky character we wanted to portray, i always liked the way her hands were on her hips as this shows her confident personality and her independence we also wanted to show our artist to have these characteristic's. i edited the colour of her top to be pink, to go with the title of our album 'Not so pretty in pink' and i also cropped the picture. I then added the Artist name and album title in a girly font and added a parental advisor sticker as we show are character to swear as part of her cheeky personality.
I used this print screen from our video as the inside of my digipack, i flipped and cropped the picture and then changed the colour so it would fit the rest of my Digipack, i like the way her dress is a dot print as this shows are artists character as quirky and bold and yet girly as she is holding flowers.

Digipack:
I really liked this screen shot from our music video, i was thinking about using it on the back of my Digipack for the track list, i like how the artist is wearing a poker dot dress which shows her quirky but girly character which is also shown through the flower she is holding, I'm going to write the track list on the plain white side to the left of the artist.
I really like how the shot is of a mid-shot just showing her body and not her face, this is different and stands out and appeals to the audience of both men and women.
I really liked this one for the front cover of my digipack, i like how her holding her hips shows attitude and brings out her cheeky character, and if the artist was real not seeing her face shows she's famous enough to not have her shown on the cover, similar to Rhianna's one. I also did this as she is wearing pink and our album is called "Not so pretty in pink"

Artist name:
We was having a discussion over Facebook about our artist's name deciding what would be appropriate for our artists character, and our genre of pop, after much thought we came up with 'Bailey' thanks to Jasmine who happened to be sitting next to a bottle of baileys and thought it would be a good name for our artist, we all agreed and like how it was quirky and original.
here's part of our discussion on Facebook:

Editing:
Today after after school me Oyinda and Jasmine stayed behind to edit our music video, I have been staying behind quite a bit just because i enjoy it so much, However this time we didnt enjoy it so much, we realised we mucked up the timing of our music which put our whole video out of time, we spent so long trying to figure out what we had done to mess it up, we had to edit our whole video so far which was so annoying, in future i think we'll try not to move the music!

Other inspiration:
We was also inspired by Lenka - the show, we used the same setting a park as this video and we also decided to do a shot of our artist sitting on the bench, i think the location is very relateable to our target audience.
We had our artist swearing to add to the attitude and cheekyness of our character and we wanted it to look quirky.
By accident we also happened to get a running man as an extra in our video just like Lenka's:

Other inspiration:
while on our trip at the Richmix theatre in November Peter Fraser used this video as an example of how the objectification of women have changed over the years. We then wanted to use this element in a funny way to outline the message of our song which has a pro - women attitude. Here's how a screen shot of us using it:
Another part of the video which inspired us was the part where the artist is playing on a duke box in the diner, we wanted to recreate this in our music video by using a screen within a screen effect. For our narrative we would have our boy actor watching our artist on the screen:

Audience Feedback:
While Me and Oyinda was editing in the media room today, some of our peers also happened to be in the room and was watching what we had done so far, they was giving us a few of their opinions and some feedback, so we quickly made this video of them, i filmed while Oyinda asked them a few questions on our music video so far, here's what they said:

Filming Day three:
On Monday, my group and I filmed at playing fields, our final scene. We started by filming Oyinda walking down the long path i really like the lines and composition created by the trees and the path in the park.
We also filmed John appearing behind Oyinda, we did this by stopping recording as he got into the place we wanted on camera and we then pressed record so it looks like he appeared out of nowhere. when editing this we will speed it up so it is to the beat of the song.
We also filmed lip syncing and also a shot of Oyinda walking over the camera im not sure how well this will come out but im hoping it will look very good!
The lighting was quite bright compared to the rain weve had for the past month, so were hoping this will show on our film as we want it to be bright and colourful for our pop genre.
Here is a photo of when we decided to use Playing fields as our forth location, i think it looks really beautiful:
and here is a screen shot of it used in our music video:
Although the trees are bare i still think it is a really great location, we edited the colour of the clips in the playinf fields as we found them quite dull as the weather wasnt great the day of filmming, and we think it being bright looks much better and fits more with our pop genre and quirky video.

Inspiration:
This example of an as coursework media video that we found on youtube while researching, it has given us some ideas for some camera angles we want to try and recreate when we film our last scene.
Two minutes into the video, there is a camera angle where the girl in the video walks over the camera and then the camera follows her so the angle is the upside down once she has walked over the top of the camera.
We were thinking about how we would do this and what we have thought is if someone lays down on the floor holding the camera on one side and then doing a pan across as she walks over the top and the over to the other side.
However we would adapt it to fit with our video, so we would have the girl in our video skipping towards and over the camera to make it quite girly and quirky which fits with the representation we want to portray.
here is a picture of us trying out how we will create the camera angle:
and here is a screen shot of it being used in our music video:

Album title:
Recently we have had a group meeting as we have to make an album title and track list, we got together and tried to think of tracks which will link with the track we have already got 'knock em out' and also track names which sound quite quirky to relate to our artist's personality.
We have decided that as our album name we will use one of the names of the tracks we have made up, just becase most pop albums normally take the name of their album from one of their album tracks, and we wanted to follow this convention as we think this will make our digi pack more professional.
We have decided to call our album 'Not so pretty in pink' because we think it fits perfectly with the image of the album and the feminist feel of it and we want this message to be shown through every inch of the digi pack.

Another controversial video:
This new music video by Pink, the second artist we have been looking into for inspiration for ideas and creativity for our music video and digi pack, I've found the new video really touching and again standing up for women, in the respect that no one should ever feel demeaned by others or feel unimportant because everyone is perfect in their own ways, i think this is a very powerful video, for obvious reasons once you have watch it but I think it is defiantly going to be classed as controversial in the world of music just because it isn't showing glamour and perfection in an obvious way like other pop genre video's it probably wont be classed as 'correct' but i think it is a great video which make women feel good about themselves for who they are. In a media eye, i noticed the editing more than the narrative and i really like the way the clips inter merge with each other as they fade on and off the screen, id like to use an effect like this in our music video however I'm not sure if it would fit with our song as our song is very upbeat and quite fast in comparison to this song.
